I guess the real reason I decided to title my blog "Not That Mom" is because as someone new to parenting, I am often asked, "You aren't going to be those parents that...." or "Well you guys would never..." I find that my parenting decisions are becoming less about my convictions and more about what I shouldn't do.

For example:
"You guys don't let him sleep in the bed with you, right."
"You aren't going to be those parents that question vaccines, right? You do know that study about vaccines link to autism was a fraud, right?"
"You aren't going to homeschool/private school/public school him, of course."

And it's funny because he HAS slept in bed with us; we (at least I) am somewhat skeptical of the way vaccines are scheduled, among other things, and my fears aren't necessarily related to autism; and forcryingoutloud, my baby hasn't celebrated being 4 months yet, let's discuss school closer to his 4th birthday!

The only issues I've even had the time to stand on are breastfeeding and cloth diapering....and for now they seem to be respected. Although when giving us gifts of disposable diapers, which we really truly appreciate and use because they are CONVENIENT, someone said "these are for when you're tired of doing that cloth thing." And then you have our pediatrician, suggesting we use formula to supplement when lil Davey was 2 days old and my milk had yet to come in.

Anyway, all that to say, I'd that this parenting thing is HARD. Partly because that's the nature of it. And partly because everyone has their opinion.

I'm about to use the phrase "that mom" approximately 10 times...

About 55 days ago, I became a mom.

But not that mom.

That mom can be a good thing. It can mean you make perfect cupcakes, drop your kids off on time, you don't get sweaty when you exercise - oh...wait....you don't exercise - because that mom doesn't have to exercise. Her metabolism is just that fabulous.

Or, that mom can be the other end of the spectrum. Either the mom who can't be bothered to try to corral her kids at the store, or who takes her infant to WalMart at 3 am.

Two months into this, I'm trying to sort out what kind of mom I'll be. I know I won't be the perfect-haired, on time, miracle momma. And I know I don't want to be ther other kind. So for now, I'm just not that mom.
